"Our goal is to impose order on a chaotic universe."
The Founders.
STARDATE: 12072170
Inside the maelstrom of the Denorius Belt, the fleet appeared. One hundred ships consisting of 10 battleships comparable in size to a Xindi Aquatic, 40 battle cruisers that were a match for any starship and 50 smaller attack ships. The invasion force left the boundaries of the plasma cloud, emerging on the edge of Bajoran space and continued onwards.
Proximity detectors scattered throughout the stellar border began screaming almost immediately, the large armada appearing in every sensor in the star system. As far as Cardassia Prime, the neighbours watched, recorded, sent out alerts. Bajor's growing military was mobilised, after repeated hails to the enemy fleet went unanswered. The first wave of ships that finally broke formation upon reaching Bajor itself, obliterated the Bajoran ability to fight the airborne attack.
The battle cruisers met, targeting all seats of government. The Bajoran Council, the Vedek Assembly were annihilated from orbit. Every major city across the system was bombarded into submission. The entire invasion of Bajor was completed in less than four hours.
The Bajoran government surrendered unconditionally in five.

The transmission once Bajor had fallen travelled through subspace to every corner of the newly formed Federation. The message was simple and delivered by the Vorta, a race which spoke for the Dominion. Unlike the Jem'Hadar, the combat troops that had been responsible for the annexing of Bajor, the Vorta were slight, almost willowy folk who spoke but did not do. They left the business of conquest to the Jem'Hadar. However, who they served was a mystery. The Vorta only spoke the words, the architects were the so far unseen Founders.
"People of the Federation. For years we have tolerated incursions into our sovereign space. We had chosen to ignore such trespasses even though you seemed to take no such care in avoiding it. However in recent times, your aggression seems to have escalated as was proven by your recent war with the race known as the Xindi. Clearly your mutual alliance only means that you will now have greater ability to enter our space and this we will not endure any longer.
Two hours ago, the people of Bajor welcomed our fleet to and asked that we provide protection to all its worlds and colonies throughout the system. As a consequence of our presence, Bajor no longer feels it necessary to be a part of the Federation and requests that all dialogue be conducted through us. We are of course, happy to assist the Bajoran government in any way we can. While we have no desire to venture beyond Bajoran space at this time, we would take it unkindly if the Federation does not honour Bajor's wishes."
And with that, the Federation was introduced to the Dominion.
~~~~~
An attack fleet was dispatched to liberate the Bajoran home world with twenty ships from various member worlds of the Federation. The battle took place outside the Denorius Belt where no one suspected the Dominion ships had originated. It did not last more than an hour and the result was such heavy casualties that the fleet limped back to its own space, tail tucked between their legs. The engagement while humiliating had the desire effect of showing the Federation that they were no match for the Dominion fleet. Fearing the inevitable moment when the Dominion would expand, the Federation threw itself into the business of building a war fleet that would repel the invader when the Dominion finally left Bajoran space.
Unfortunately, this meant that Bajor would have to fend for itself.
For now.
